ABSTRACT

A fundamental damage distribution law for a shear-type multi-story frame is given by the following equation (Akiyama, 1999).

1 INTRODUCTION

The base-isolated structural system in which the base-isolated story is equipped at the base story and the total energy input is absorbed by the base story, leaving the other upper stories free from conditions required for the energy absorption has been already established and is developing vigorously. As for the energy absorbing system at intermediate stories, initial stage of researches have been made already and practical applications have been tried (Ogura et al., 1999), (Murakami et al., 2001), (Kobayashi & Ko, 2001).
