2 VULNERABILITY STUDY
A two step assessment procedure with increasing level of details is implemented. Two damage mechanisms are taken into account for assessing the vulnerability of the steel storage tanks: − The damage of the tank wall as a consequence
of elastic or elastic-plastic buckling mechanism, known in the technical literature as diamond or elephant-foot buckling, respectively,
− The overturning of the storage tank.
