ABSTRACT
In the sequel, the case of a multistorey building is studied that has been designed according to older seismic codes. The masonry infills that have been placed in this building lead to the development of a soft storey and to a bad seismic response. The preliminary design of the seismic links is first presented and their effectiveness is tested using nonlinear static analysis. Finally, the effect of the strengthening on the stresses developed in the masonry walls is studied, in order to avoid their possible overloading due to the introduction of the steel links.
