ABSTRACT

One structural member used in the damage controlled structure serving as an energy absorption mechanism is a buckling-restrained brace. The buckling-restrained brace has a core plate that transmits axial force and is stiffened with restraining part to prevent buckling. Up to now, different buckling-restrained braces have been proposed; numerous performance evaluation and design method studies have been performed (Iwata 2000). Such buckling-restrained braces have been used in a number of structures. A buckling restrainedbrace using a steel mortar plank, which is mortarfilled channel steel, developed by the authors is among them (Fig. 1) (Iwata 2003).
