ABSTRACT

The growth of C60 nanowhiskers (C60NWs) synthesized in a solution was investigated. In order to know the growth mechanism, the length of C60NWs was measured under various growth conditions of temperature, volume mixing ratio of the C60-saturated toluene solution and isopropyl alcohol (IPA), and water content in IPA. A high activation energy of the crystal growth was obtained from the length growth measurement of C60NWs. The growth of C60NWs was found to be enhanced by a small amount of water contained in IPA. It is inferred that the water contained in IPA catalyzes the growth of C60NWs.
