Visual recognition is the core problem of learning categories of objects, scenes, and activities, and then identifying new instances in image or video data. Robust recognition algorithms are crucial for many computer vision tasks, and also have potential applications touching many areas of artificial intelligence and information retrieval-including content-based image search, video data mining, or object identification for mobile robots.
