ABSTRACT
The pioneering work of Charles Darwin (Darwin 1859 [82]), on which modern evolutionary biology has been built, has radically changed our understanding of evolution. Darwin introduced in his book On the Origin of Species a theory of evolution, whereby species evolve over generations through the selection process and natural diversity of living is obtained through the gradual accumulation of differences in subpopulations of species.
