ABSTRACT

The femur is a robust tubular bone that articulates with the innominate at the ball-and-socket hip joint, and to the tibia via the hinge joint of the knee. The proximal and distal metaphyseal aspects of the femur are considerably less robust than the diaphysis. The femoral neck extends from the intertrochanteric region of the femur to the femoral head. The distal femoral condyles articulate with the broad tibial plateau.
