ABSTRACT

The working principle behind MHT is that of exposing MNP to AMF after they have somehow reached a tumor (Jordan et al. 1993; Jordan et al. 2001). Three major factors involved in MHT are the fi eld generator, which generates the AMF, the induction coil, which defi nes the area of high fi eld strength, and the MNPs, which generate heat when exposed to an AMF. The heat generation depends on the frequency and amplitude of the magnetic fi eld, and the time exposed to AMF, as well as and on Curie temperature and Specifi c Absorption Rates (SAR), which is strongly dependent on the chemical type of MNP and its shape, size, dispersity (mono or poly) (Bossmann 2009).
