was summarized in a document containing updated information on the physiological, biomechanical, psychophysical, and epidemiological aspects of manual li–ing [4]. Based on the results of the literature review, the ad hoc committee recommended criteria for dening the li–ing capacity of healthy workers. e committee used the criteria to formulate the revised li–ing equation.* Subsequently, NIOSH sta™ developed the documentation for the equation and played a prominent role in recommending methods for interpreting the results of the li–ing equation. ˜e revised li¦ing equation re©ects new ®ndings and provides methods for evaluating asymmetrical li¦ing tasks and li¦s of objects with less than optimal couplings between the object and the worker’s hands. ˜e revised li¦ing equation also provides guidelines for a more diverse range of li¦ing tasks than the earlier equation [3].
