Whatever the quality of the crime scene sketch, it serves as a graphic document to show the layout, orientation, and interrelationships of the scene and the evidence. e sketch supports the photographs and notes and will ultimately complement the nal report. Because it is a graphic document depicting pertinent portions of the scene, it allows the viewer to easily and quickly comprehend the interrelationships between the scene and the evidence. Scene sketches are also an important document for the investigator, as the crime scene sketch is quite helpful in subsequent analysis or reconstruction e®orts. e documentation produced from the crime scene mapping e®ort helps in physically reconstructing the entire scene or portions of the scene. ese techniques of reconstructing the scene will o¨en assist a jury in recognizing the spatial relationships and limitations present in the scene.
