ABSTRACT

Musa spp. including banana and plantain comprise the world’s fourth most important crop. Global high-throughput approaches targeting the genome, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome and interactome have been developed as powerful tools to increase our understanding of cellular functions and plant systems biology (Fukushima et al. 2009). This chapter reviews the recent progress that has been made in Musa genomics research by making use of the omics technologies, proteomics and metabolomics.
