A caveat should be entered straightaway about the scope of the chapter – this chapter covers only those diseases (such as, arseniasis and fluorosis) where drinkingwater is the principal route of intoxication. The chapter does not discuss numerous water-based, parasitic, bacterial, viral, etc. diseases, such as, gastrointestinal disorders, cholera, typhoid, malaria, schistosomiasis, etc.
