ABSTRACT

There have been three major nuclear energy accidents till date: The Three-Mile Island accident USA (1979), and Chernobyl Reactor Accident, Ukraine (1986) were caused by technical failure, while the Fukushima – Daiichi (Japan) nuclear accident on Mar. 11, 2011, was triggered by earthquake and tsunami. The severity of nuclear accident is rated 0 to 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES). The Three-mile Island has been rated at 5, and Chernobyl and Fukushima are rated at 7, the highest (in the early stages of Fukushima accident, it was rated 4, then 6, and finally 7).
