ABSTRACT

TBI is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in individuals under the age of 45 years. TBI commonly results in signifi cant sensorimotor defi cits (e.g., loss of ambulation and fi ne motor skills) as well as psychological and cognitive impairment (e.g., depression, memory loss) (Werner and Engelhard 2007). In the United States (U.S.), TBI affects over 1.5 million people every year. It results in long-term disabilities and mortalities in 124,000 and 50,000 patients, respectively (Selassie et al. 2008).
