ABSTRACT
The discovery that the strong interactions can be described by a non-Abelian gauge theory based on the colour group SU(3) is one of the triumphs of twentieth century physics. The current focus of research in collider physics regards QCD as an established tool used to predict reaction rates and distributions, so I will be quite brief on the motivation for QCD.
