ABSTRACT
350Many Information Technology (IT) organizations struggle with defining and implementing an effective metrics program for application development and maintenance. Common issues include too many metrics, data overload, no clear alignment to strategy, no end-to-end perspective or ability to drill down, and unclear accountability. Any of these issues can lead to an ineffective program and frustrated IT leadership. This chapter will detail a proven framework to establish quickly an actionable Software Development and Maintenance (SDM) metrics program and scorecard based on data that is generally available in most SDM organizations.
