ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: To examine the effect of aging and work ability on the task performance of industrial workers, twenty four subjects including 12 younger and 12 older male workers were selected. The average age of the young and old groups was 28.75 years and 61.25 years, respectively. Work ability was measured using the Work Ability Index (WAI) and subjects were divided into ‘moderate’ and ‘excellent’ according to WAI. Task performances were examined by using the function of maintaining concentration (TAF). Subjects did a TAF test, 2 trials per day (before and after work) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The result showed an aging effect on task performances on Monday and Wednesday. The excellent work ability group has higher task performance than the moderate group in both young and older groups. However, we could not find significant work ability effect on task performance. Aging effect seems to have a higher impact on task performances than work ability effect.
