ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: With social development and economic improvement, the growth and proportions of body for children in Taiwan have changed gradually, especially for preschool children. The past anthropometric data and sizing system for Taiwanese preschool children does not meet most of the needs and the applications nowadays. The purpose of this study was to collect the 3D digital body data from preschool children aged from 4 to 6 years in Taiwan with a portable 3D body scanner and to measure useful dimensions from scans for children’s clothes. Fourteen typical clothing dimensions were retrieved from the collected digital body scans. One hundred and eleven boys and 105 girls aged from 4 to 6 years completed the measurements. Principal component analysis was conducted to retrieve important shirt and pants dimensions. By considering the explained variation and loading factor, chest circumference and shoulder breadth were chosen as the major dimensions for shirts and blouse. The dimensions for pants and trousers are crotch height and hip circumference. Based on the results, the shirt sizing system and pants sizing system for preschool children will be obtained.
