ABSTRACT

In this paper, based on the two categories of backfill body, we give some preliminary analysis of interaction mechanism between backfill body and salt cavern, mainly focusing on the long term influence of backfill body with different bulk moduli on cavern convergence. A model of a spherical cavern in an infinite space is created. For dry backfill material, the backfill body is assumed to be elastic. When analyzing fluid bearing backfill body, Biot’s porous theory is introduced and the rock salt permeability is considered. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the long-term behavior of backfilled caverns and highlight the influence of backfill modulus.
