ABSTRACT

The paper describes two different numerical models of the Gorleben salt dome which have been used for different areas of application to analyse the far-field integrity of the salt barrier. The first model describes a characteristic vertical cross section of the salt dome considering the main geological layers of the salt structure and the overburden in a more detailed way. In opposite to former model calculations regarding the disposal of highlevel wastes in boreholes (Heusermann et al. 2011), the actual calculations presented here comprises the disposal in drifts of the repository mine. The second model deals with various ice-age scenarios and represents the regional far-field situation incorporating the complete Gorleben-Rambow salt structure which is discretised in a more general way with respect to the geological structure. The model calculations have been performed using the special purpose JIFE code (Sarfeld et al. 2008).
