ABSTRACT

Security in the ancient world was an undreamed of and unachievable utopia. e nascence of religions and legislation was a fundamental step to improve co-existence within a more peaceful society and to ensure security. We can assume that even in prehistoric times a quest for security against physical violence, extreme weather conditions, and famine was pursued.1 However, technical skills were minimal, production of goods was not very eective, and rural economies depended on the unpredictable upturns and downturns of the annual harvest cycles. erefore ancient societies were unable to aord important surpluses they could use to fund a framework of social security.2
