INTRODUCTION
After graduation from Hokkaido University School of Medicine, in Northern Japan, I started out as a cardiovascular pharmacologist there at the Department of Pharmacology under Professor Tsuneyoshi Tanabe, MD, PhD, the head of the department. Dr. Tanabe had attended the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan where his mentor Dr. Maurice H. Seevers had been noted for his studies on drug dependence. Professor Tanabe participated in the digitalis symposium at the First International Congress of Pharmacology.
