ABSTRACT

Advanced fiber-reinforced composites derived from epoxy resins and carbon fibers have found a special place in commercial and military aircraft and in a variety of space systems including space stations and shuttles. This is due to their high strength, high modulus and low density. The recently launched aircraft Boeing ‘787 dreamliner’ has successfully used a significant amount of composite material in

its structural and other components to reduce its total weight and to make it fuel efficient.
