ABSTRACT

These elds require an interactive approach, as one can contribute to the others, and vice versa. For example, an unmet clinical need will be an important driving force for the engineering approach. However, the implementation of biomaterials must impact important clinical parameters, which include mortality, morbidity, and quality of life. These parameters need to be used to question the indications for the use of the biomaterial; furthermore, these parameters can be used with additional biological and physiological data to improve the biomaterial or inspire research in the development of more innovative and relevant biomaterials. This is applicable as well for the implementation of biomaterials in biomedical devices and drug delivery systems.
