ABSTRACT

The authors present an assessment of Health and Safety at work Management System - OHSAS 18001 done with use of ISRS method. The aim of the study was to show the influence of implementing the Management System on the manufacturing process in a company that produces goods from polyethylene using rotational molding process.

Research was done in the area of Health and Safety at work management before and after the implementation of the certified health and safety at work management system according to OHSAS 18001. The analysis was conducted in 2010-2011. For the assessment of health and safety authors used ISRS method on 5th level. The evaluation was performed based on 324 questions. ISRS method is used to measure the effectiveness and quality of the management systems in enterprises in way of reducing losses caused by accidents, explosions, fires and other danger occurrences. The results of H&S management system audits conducted by ISRS gives measurable, spot result.

There was done an analysis of retrospective and current status of Health and Safety at work management system by ISRS. Prior to the implementation of the management system there was identified many lacks in the health and safety at work way of managing that could influence directly on the work process. 195Implementation of the management system has enabled work process improvement through organizational and engineering changes, and by raising awareness of employees at the level of production workers and management.

Following the implementation of management system according to OHSAS 18001the improvement of the health and safety in the following area was observed:

Management and Administration – 38%,

Planned H&S audits and maintenance – 64.8%,

Accidents investigations – 31.7%,

H&S rules and work permit – 55.6%,

Analysis of accidents – 12.5%,

Personal protective equipment – 0%,

Health and safety at work – 15.9%,

Promotion of safety issues – 33.4%.

The analysis of health and safety at work conditions in chosen organization identified the improvement of health and safety management after implementation of H&S management system. The expected result of the implementation of this management system is to reduce the occupational risks associated with work processes in the organization. Risk reduction should take place through the standardization of reporting by employees of the potentially accident events - nearmissess.
