Effective and reliable reprocessing of reusable medical equipment such as endoscopes is critical for patient safety. While manufacturers provide highly detailed and technical instructions for cleaning and maintenance, these documents are not readily usable by reprocessing technicians as real-time job aids. This paper describes some of the significant human factors considerations involved in creating job-aids from manufacturer’s instructions and their inclusion in the Veterans Affairs Interactive Visual Navigator1 (IVN™) system.
