ABSTRACT

The technique of urushi painting, which is one of Japanese traditional crafts, is too difficult and it is performed by hand, so that technology transfer from the expert to non-expert would be hard. This study aimed to clarify the influence on painting technology for the difference of skill and the brush to use. An expert and two non-experts were subjects and they painted urushi with their and other person’s brush. Talk Eye II was used as the measuring equipment to take images. The painting process and painting time were measured to analyze. As a result, the expert used the brush for 4 directions but both non-experts used brush only 2 directions. In addition, the expert changed painting way with the difference of brushes however both non-expert didn’t change their painting ways with the difference of brushes
