ABSTRACT

The purpose of the experiment is to investigate the influence of background music on visual search performance. A 2(tempo: fast, slow) X 2(loudness: high, low) within-subject design was used in addition to a control condition. Twenty University students participated in the experiment. The data of search time and correct rate were obtained for indicating the related performance. The results obtained here showed that there were significant differences among 5 different conditions. Background music loudness had significant impact on visual search performance. No significant differences for visual performance were found across tempo. Music with low loudness acted better for enhancing visual search performance.
