ABSTRACT

The performance of silicone surfactants in polyurethane foam formulations is principally based on their surface activity and their interaction with the chemical structures of the foam polymer, which is being formed. For this reason, the design and chemical composition of a surfactant should be adjusted to the chemical environment in which it has to develop its efŽciency. With the increasingly broadening range of polyurethane foams, to optimize both processing and Žnal foam, it appears essential to select the surfactant by taking into account the relationship between its own composition and the speciŽc characteristics of an actual foam formulation.
