ABSTRACT
The food and drug administration (FDA) deŽnes “long-term” as any device intended for over 29 days of implantation. This deŽnition encompasses the majority of devices made of polyurethanes. The polyurethanes carry a premium price, and are thus only used in those applications where the mechanical, physical, chemical, and biological properties of the polymers cannot be duplicated by any other polymer system.
