ABSTRACT

For nearly two decades federal oƒcials have targeted funds to enhance law enforcement e€orts through the Operation Weed and Seed program, but no research to date has used spatial modeling techniques to isolate evidence that this commitment of federal funds has provided a tangible bene‹t for the targeted communities. Operation Weed and Seed is a federally funded community policing initiative created by the U.S. Department of Justice that was ‹rst implemented in 1991 as an alternative approach to reducing crime in inner city areas. e administration of this federal initiative was passed o€ to the Community Capacity Development Oƒce (CCDO), which has continued to oversee funding of this program in several high-crime areas since its inception.
