ABSTRACT

The older generation is willing to use new technologies and innovations to improve their living and working situation. Therefore it gets more and more important to remove obstacles that prevent older people from using new technologies. Innovative workplace solutions can help elderly workers to be flexible in their working environment and therefore to handle their livelihood independently.

The following paper describes the conception of a workplace solution for the elderly at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering in Stuttgart, Germany. Currently available workstations have been conceptually revised to fulfill the requirements of elderly workers. A prototype for an all-in-on solution has been developed including latest technology and best practice solutions for integrating a PC, keyboard, and an ergonomically revised mouse. The prototype was evaluated in a comparative test with users. As comparison standard input devices and elderly related solutions available on the current market were used.
