ABSTRACT

Because of the global energy tension, LED technology plays an important role in the recent years. According to the past studies, it could save huge energy if replace LED with traditional illumination, therefore the research and developments about LED products are very important. The effect on physiology or physiology from LED lighting is an important factor to product devise. There were 10 male subjects participated in this study. They read for 4 to 5 hours at 4 kinds of LED lighting environments in random order: 4500K and the illumination<30 lux, 2700K, 4500K, and 6500K. The Farnswrth Munsell 100 test and vision test were being used before and after the subjects’ reading to evaluate their color discrimination and vision. Furthermore, body temperature was being measured during their reading at 3678 times. The result shows that the LED lighting at 2700K had the greatest effect on the subjects’ vision. The body temperature was getting lower during reading at all 4 kinds environments, especially the third time (P=0.043) and sixth time (P=0.013) at 6500K lighting, and the last time at 2700K (P=0.036) and 6500K (P=0.002) lightings. These values have significant difference to the one was measured before reading. These findings could be some references to product development.
