ABSTRACT

Arsenic (As) contamination has occurred worldwide due to indiscriminate use of arsenical pesticides, phosphate fertilisers, mining and weathering of As-rich rocks. In some horticultural soils As occurs well above the Australian Health Investigation Level of 100 mg/kg (NEPC 1999). These sources impose significant health concerns due to direct ingestion of soil by the cattle, and soil-plant-animal-human food chains.
