ABSTRACT

The samples selected for this study were mine tailings resulting from milling and smelting, which were collected in January 2005 from surface tailing piles or outcrop of the mining area. They correspond to remnants of the primary ore, consisting of quartz veins, mineralized sulfide by yellowish green color (R1), fragments of oxide ore (outcrop in the mine-R2) and the calcined concentrated (pile) ore (R3). A former mine tailing (1990s), used for filling the path to a local beach (El Soldado) was also sampled (R4).
