ABSTRACT

The release of Arsenic (As) in groundwater is generally associated with reduction of iron (Fe) (oxy)hydroxides. Nickson et al. (2000) reported that arsenic in reducing aquifers is thought to be released into groundwater as a result of microbial Fe(III) reduction. However, the Sulfide (S) produced during microbial sulfate reduction can form the mineral that remove arsenic from solution (Moore et al. 1988). The objective of this study was to examine the behavior of arsenic, iron and sulfate under anaerobic condition; and study the influence of microbe such as Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB).
