ABSTRACT

When managing arsenic, in the context of safe drinking water is still far from the reality, high manganese (Mn) in many tubewells made the situation even critical. In order to develop a color based tool for the local drillers, hydrogeological investigations to date suggest that red/brown to off-white sediments produce As-safe water, but contain high Mn concentrations. In such conditions, investigations done at a range of ≈120 m depth provide promising results in the context of both As and Mn and seem prospective for a safe water supply.
