ABSTRACT
We propose an interactive substantial display named “Shaboned Display” consisting of bubble film array. In this system, each bubble does not float away and it functions as a pixel by expanding and contracting at the same position. As a result, this system can show various kinds of image or motion by controlling the action of each bubble. In addition, we succeeded in detecting an explosion of the bubble film using an electrical approach and utilizing this is as an input. Using such an ephemeral material as an interface, this touch interface stimulates humans to touch and break them. Moreover, we can create unpredictable changes in an artistic representation. We herein report the design, implementation, and evaluation of a display system and touch interaction using a bubble film array along with its application examples.
