ABSTRACT

The field of robot safety considers a set of human-robot interactions which affect the physical and psychological well-being of the individuals working with robots. The six chapters included in this section offer a review of hazards created by the introduction of robots into human-occupied environments. Hazard reduction strategies and safety solutions are also included. In Chapter 6, the authors present and analyse the robotrelated accidents reported in Finland since 1989. They also describe the paradox of robotization, i.e. the fact that industrial robots are often used to alleviate the heavy dangerous tasks, yet they have caused other types of over-exertion injuries.
