ABSTRACT

The cryopegs (negative temperature saline water and brines) occur in the Yakutian diamondbearing province in Russia. Three groups of cryopegs are distinguished by their geochemical and isotopic properties. The cryopegs may occur: (i) as a result of evaporation and concentration of paleoseawater (group A), (ii) as a result of leaching of halite strata (group B), or (iii) in the process of geochemical evolution under mixing, leaching and water-rock interactions (group C).
