ABSTRACT

The Full Probability Method (Level III Method) is theoretically correct approach for the calculation of structural reliability. Unfortunately, the calculation of failure probability is difficult. Therefore, the Approximate Probability Method (Level II Method) have developed rapidly because of its simple calculation and accuracy to meet most of the projects, in which the “First Order Reliability Methods” (FORM) transform the initial set of variables into an independent multi-normal set and use a linear approximation. For a complete description of some of these methods and some illustrative examples see Hasofer and Lind (1974), Madsen et al. (1986), Ditlevsen and Madsen (1996), or Melchers (1999).
