ABSTRACT
Angiogenesis is the process that leads to the formation of new blood vessel growth from existing ones and plays an essential role in the development of tissues in the vertebrate embryo (Carmeliet 2000). It is also involved in a wide variety of physiological and pathological conditions in adults, including wound repair, metabolic diseases, infl ammation, cardiovascular disorders, and tumour progression.
