ABSTRACT

Ergonomics practitioners use a variety of analysis methods and measurements. When the analysis and findings are presented or reported, an ergonomist can use a system of complex terminology that the average layperson may not adequately comprehend. When the analysis or findings cannot be fully comprehended by the customer, the Power Zone concept can be used for simplification purposes. The Power Zone is a simple, yet very effective, ergonomics concept. When work is performed in this zone, the worker can use his/her large and strong muscles to perform the work with maximum efficiency. When work is placed outside of the Power Zone, the worker is in a weaker position which can increase the potential for injury. The concept of the Power Zone is discussed and its integration in workstation design and training at several companies in different industries is presented.
