ABSTRACT

Nine out of 10 companies fail to make it to venture capital (VC) funding sources, even after passing technical feasibility hurdles and developing working prototypes [1]. This chapter illustrates the steps and resources needed to grow a start-up company out of academic research. In it we outline general concepts of beginning and maintaining a successful start-up company, and through the use of three case studies, we will show how these guidelines directly relate to quality of life technology (QoLT).
