ABSTRACT
Why do we need data security? Data generated and communicated by a sensor network can be thought of as property. Sensor network owners own this property. Like a house or car, an owner wishes to protect property from the¯, damage, or destruction. Sensor network owners usually seek at least three security goals: (1) preventing data disclosure to non-owners, (2) preserving data authenticity, and (3) preserving data availability. Sensor network owners may also wish to prevent the unauthorized use of the sensor network by others (i.e., the¥ of service).
