ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT: Urbanization, land subsidence and other challenges create the urgent challenge for cities to transform into flood-proof ecocities. This chapter draws on the recent debate on future cities in the international water sector. Based on this debate, the chapter describes five characteristics of flood-proof ecocities. In addition, the needed governance elements for cities to transform into flood-proof ecocities are discussed.
