ABSTRACT

Modern liquid chromatography (LC) has its origin in the early experiments carried out by Tswett. In 1903, Tswett separated pigments adsorbed on lter paper using alcohol-petroleum ether mixtures; later on he used columns containing sorbents for pigments separation. The term chromatography was introduced three years later (Sakodynskii and Chmutov, 1972). LC is one mode to achieve the separation of a certain mixture where compounds are distributed between two phases, namely stationary and mobile.
