ABSTRACT

Algae crops have been used through time for various purposes. Fish, vitamins, and other products have been produced on a large scale using algae. However, in recent years, the world’s energy demand has grown dramatically, leading the scientic community to undertake research and development of new and efcient sources of energy to provide cleaner and greener performance. In this scenario, algae-to-biofuels has emerged as a very promising process option because algae have most of the desirable characteristics of a biomass feedstock, such as

1. Efciency: Algae can transform sunlight efciently into biomass (lipids and other products).
