ABSTRACT

Over the last two decades, breast imaging has dramatically changed. Early detection is viewed as the best hope to decrease breast cancer mortality by allowing intervention at an earlier stage of cancer progression (Nass et al. 2001, Cherney and Reminton 1999, Kopans 1997, Bushberg et al. 1994). It is universally accepted that mammography is the most important and e–cacious tool for the early detection of breast cancer (Bassett et al. 2005).
